RTEC 203 Active Learning Demonstration Classroom

Early in 2004, the Office of the Provost began a project to convert RTEC 203, an aged and outmoded conventional classroom, into an active learning demonstration classroom. The project, completed in February, 2005, required an investment of approximately $82,000 in construction, fixtures, furniture, media, and other equipment. RTEC 203 is now available for selective use by classes designed to take advantage of the adaptability and technology in this space. Sheila Wurtsbaugh, 593-1777, wurtsbau@ohio.edu, is responsible for management of and access to the facility.

RTEC 203 has a design capacity of 34 in an area of 1,000 square feet with an adjacent room for storage for unused equipment and/or small group break outs. The room is equipped with castered and folding tables and chairs that can be arranged as desired for multi-group activities, whole-class interaction and other learning needs. Media and technology include a video projector, Hitachi Starboard software with simultaneous plasma screen and video display, document camera, Windows computer, VCR/DVD/CD, audio, internet access, front and rear whiteboards, and dimmable lighting by zone.
